Tully teensReachers: Yay!

Tully teensReachersThe Tully Community Branch Library is well known for its jam-packed calendar of events. There are anywhere from four to eleven programs offered every day of the week the Library is open. The Tully teensReach group is responsible for many of these programs.

The Tully teensReach group is comprised of 88 teen volunteers and they volunteered over 1,000 hours in the past year. There is an active cabinet consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. All teens interested in volunteering at the Tully Community Branch Library must sign up for teensReach and attend an orientation and monthly meetings.

Tully teensReachers volunteer in a variety of capacities at the Library. They set-up and run the Library’s monthly book sales. Proceeds go towards funding special events at the Library. Tully teens lead weekly Wednesday Fun Day activities for children which include: Wii video games, board games, movie days and art activities.

Tully teensReachers are also our Homework Center coaches and tutor children in grades 1-8 Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They assist with special holiday events including Lunar New Year, Halloween and Winter Holiday events.

One very remarkable thing about Tully’s teen volunteers, they are all very social and many become long term friends. They enjoy meeting teens from other schools and parts of San Jose.

The Tully Library staff and community are grateful for all of the time, effort and energy Tully’s teen volunteers put into making their Library a vibrant and inviting space.

Janice Garcia, when she's not helping people at the Biblioteca Latinoamericana, is a spoken-word artist and poet. Her program is intended to give you the tools to unblock your own creativity. Join us and let the words and good time roll. There will be a chance to win prizes for your work. You don't need to be a teensReach member to come.

What is teensReach? Why Should I care?

teensReach logoWhat is teensReach? teensReach is city-wide. teensReach is as close as your local library. It's a way for teens to make a difference, have their voices heard, earn service credits, hang out and have fun. It's a leadership opportunity and a chance to fill out your college application where it says something like "Community Service". And its first meeting at  the new Bascom Library and Community Center  is at 4 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2013. If you're between 13 and 18, come by and check it out.

Lizard Kingdom Progressive Rock

Lizard Kingdom is heavily influenced by bands such as the Fall of Troy, Ricky Martin, Sha Na Na, Nickelback, Milli Vanilli, and Brian Wilson. In our spare time, we enjoy making balloon animals. Collectively our favorite food is pickles. Our pre-show ritual is we gather around, and run with scissors to display bravery.
