The San José Public Library and the County of Santa Clara Mental Health Department’s Ethnic & Cultural Communities Advisory Committee (ECCAC) would like to invite you to participate in our first collaborative Lunar New Year Celebration event on Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Seven Trees Community Center and Library.
The festivities will showcase and share our unique cultural heritage and contribute to further enrich the multi-cultural diversity of the county. This year, we are celebrating the Year of the Horse. Learn about this exciting New Year tradition that is celebrated in many Asian cultures.
The program will start at 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The celebration will begin with Lion Dance, then words from our distinguished guests followed by various cultural performances such as Wings of 100 Viets, Fantasia Chinese performers, and Pacific Musical Group. There will be games, resource tables, exhibits, giveaway, and refreshments while supplies last. For information, please call 408-808-3056.

The Tet pole = Sựtích cây nêu ngày Tết : the story of the Tet festival / by Trần Quốc ; illustrated by Nguyễn Bich: A retelling of the traditional tale of how the Vietnamese people manage, with the help of Buddha, to free themselves of the devils occupying their country and thereafter celebrate this victory during the Lunar New Year Festival, also known as Tet.
Regular story times will take a break during the month of December
at the East San Jose Carnegie Branch Library. Please see our December calendar for other special programs for children and families. When Story Time starts again in January 2014, it will take place on Saturdays at 2:30 PM. Inclusive Story Time will take place the first Saturday of each month at 2:30 PM.
