  • No. All San José Public Library wireless networks are "open". Data is sent in clear text with no encryption. Be careful about sending sensitive information, such as credit card numbers, on an open public network. Turn off file and print sharing when you are not using it. The library is not responsible for any loss of any information that may arise from the use of the wireless connection.

  • Connection speed depends on how many devices are using the wireless network and how much information is being sent, as well as proximity to a Wi-Fi access point. Look around for anything that may get in the way of a wireless signal, such as walls, pillars, or potted plants. Being close to the access point may also help.
