eSpotlight – Read More for a Fun New Year’s Resolution!

Looking for a fun New Year's Resolution that doesn't feel like punishment or a chore? Why not try to build better reading habits? If you're interested in features that can help you discover new books and maintain your reading goals, San José Public Library's eResources has you covered!

Find New Books to Read With NoveList Plus!

NoveList Plus is a powerful book recommendation program with genre guides, reviews, read-a-likes, lists of award winners, and ways to find similar books to your favorite ones with multiple appeal factors to select.

If you're interested in building a reading habit but are not quite sure where to start, this is a great resource to utilize. You can even check the library catalog from inside the program to see if the book you are interested in is available.

You can access NoveList Plus inside the library, or from your desktop or device with your library card. You can also pair this up with fun reading challenges like Goodreads', Book Riot's Read Harder, and PopSugar's annual challenges to keep you motivated as you progress through.

Book Clubs & Author Visits

Our library branches have multiple book clubs that you can attend! Set a goal as part of a group and meet with readers across San Jose to discuss what you loved or disliked about the book your club chose. Meet and bond with people over your love of books, or register to volunteer for the library and request to start your own club!

The library also hosts author visits, especially during the annual Silicon Valley Reads and San José Public Library's Graphic Novel Making Contest events. One of the Library's most recent author visits was Mariko Tamaki, author of "Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass." If you're looking for motivation to read more, you can read an author's book and attend an event, providing a great opportunity to ask questions and become inspired to read, or even write, more literature.

Our New Library Catalog Has Plenty of Book Recommendations!

Staff (and other library members!) have been busy creating lists of reading material for you on our new catalog. You can always find the most recent Staff Lists at the top of the catalog's home page, filled with your San José Public Library employees' favorite books. In addition, our librarians have curated specialized genre guides available for Wee Reads & Kids (early childhood and grade school), Teens, and Adults. You can also catalog what you've read and review the titles you have finished for other readers!
