Get to Know Councilmember Jimenez

Q. What is your hometown?
A. San José

Q. Do you have an SJPL Library Card?
A. Yes!

Q. Where did you get your first library card?
A. Educational Park Branch Library

Q. Which do you prefer, physical books, eBooks, or Audiobooks/eAudiobooks?
A. Physical Books

Q. What is your favorite book and why?
A. The Other Wes Moore. I like this book because it shows how our environment and upbringing determine our future and shows what's possible when children are provided love, care, and direction.

Q. What are you currently reading or learning?
A. I am currently reading a book about hope and coming to terms with all of the inevitable unimportant imperfections in life.

Q. What does the library mean to you, and why do you think libraries are essential to society?
A. Libraries mean freedom to me because they allow everyone access to the world's knowledge. They level the playing field, especially for those who don't have access to high-quality education. Libraries are essential to our society because they also provide our community with safe and welcoming meeting spaces.

Q. How did the library shape your life while growing up?
A. I spent much time at my local library growing up, as it was the only place where I could find books. Also, it was an alternate space away from home where I could hang out in a positive environment.

Q. Why is it important for everyone to exercise their right to library?
A. Our City libraries aren't just for checking out books -- they have something for everyone at every stage of life. You can find e-books, movies, TV shows, online & in-person learning programs, and special events & activities. They also provide volunteer & student resources, citizenship & immigration resources, LGBTQ+ resources, free internet & tech devices, and so much more.
