ParentPowered®

San José Public Library is excited to share a new resource for families: ParentPowered® (formerly known as Ready4K), an evidence-based text messaging program that helps parents and caregivers support their children’s learning—right from home.

How it Works

Families who sign up receive three short text messages each week. Each message is simple, practical, and tied to everyday routines—such as pointing out letters during breakfast, counting steps on the way to the car, or making up rhymes at bedtime. No apps to download or logins to remember—just helpful tips delivered straight to your phone.

Why It Matters

Research shows that ParentPowered® boosts children’s early learning, literacy, and school readiness. Families who participate report feeling more confident supporting their children, and children whose parents receive the texts show stronger academic growth compared to those who don’t.

Key Features

  • Age-tailored messages: from birth through 12th grade.
  • Evidence-based curriculum: aligned with educational standards.
  • Accessible format: delivered by text, no internet required.
  • Multilingual options: available in several languages to serve our diverse community.
  • Free for families: no cost to sign up (standard text message rates may apply).
