Become a Partners in Reading Volunteer
Partner with an adult to build reading, writing, speaking, and technology skills by becoming a volunteer tutor. You’ll work with adults to meet their goals. You can volunteer as a one-on-one literacy tutor, an ESL tutor, small class instructor, computer lab instructor, or book organizer.

Meet Steve, an Adult Learner
Tutor Requirements
- Be 18 years or over
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Have an email address
- Commit to three hours a week, for six months or more
Small Class Instructor Requirements
- Be 18 years or over
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Have an email address
- Commit to two hours a week, for two months or more
- Must lead class on Zoom
Skills Needed
- Ability to speak, read, and write English well
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Comfortable with email and basic computer skills
- Ability to complete tutor reports
- Willingness to learn new skills and partner with learners to design lessons
- Flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor
