      • Locations: This is needed for mobile checkout to work and for the SJPL Locations Near You feature to work.
      • Camera: This is needed to scan your library card and to scan ISBN barcodes. Library cards can be stored on your local device in the app. You can scan ISBN barcodes on the backs of books to find out if we have them available at the library.
    • Android Only:

If you use mobile checkout, you might be prompted to enable NFC (near field communications). Most Android phones and some older Apple (iOS) phones will ask for this.

NFC is used to desensitize items that you are checking out. When you place your device over a library item's RFID (radio frequency identification) tag, your device will desensitize the RFID tag. The tag needs to desensitize, so the security detectors don't go off when you leave the library.
