Happy International Day of Human Space Flight! On April 12, 1961 Yuri Gagarin became the first human being to orbit the Earth. The UN declaration also acknowledges Valentina Tereshkova (first woman to orbit the Earth on June 16, 1963) and Neil Armstrong (first human on the moon on July 20, 1969).
The story of space flight, from Wernher von Vraun to the International Space Station, is an amazing one. SJPL has a wealth of books, movies, and documentaries to explore about this subject you should check out!
Space also makes for a great setting for your own stories! For example...a graphic novel! Did you know our Graphic Novel Contest is going to take place this summer?! Check out the Graphic Novel Webpage for new information!
