eSpotlight Alert! – Thinking of Replacing your Library Card? Read This First

Replacing your card?

If you are an electronic resources user and are thinking about replacing your library card, it's important to know how it might affect your eResources use.  If you use one of the following resources, it will be important to know what to do next.

LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com)

When you replace your library card, a new account will be set up for you at Lynda.com.  That means that any progress you've made with courses or tracks will not be saved.  Make sure to note where you are in your learning so that you can find your place with your new account.  Also, make sure to save any certificates or other proof of completion BEFORE you change your card.  Once you have a new library card, we WILL NOT be able to recover your old account.  Accounts cannot be merged, so do not replace your card if you want to preserve the progress you've made at Lynda.

hoopla

If you change your library card number, you will need to update the number in your Hoopla account.  You can do that by going to the settings in your account, clicking on Library, and replacing the library card number attached to your account with the new number.  Don't forget to save! Take a look at the video below for a demonstration.

Axis 360

Axis 360 creates a new account for you when you change your library card.  If you don't have anything checked out or on hold, you don't have to worry about making changes -- just use Axis 360 like you always do.  If you do have something checked out or on hold, you have two options:

  1. Wait until your book expires and check it out again and replace any holds you had on the original account.
  2. Call us at 408-808-2104 or email us through the form at www.sjpl.org/emediasupport and we will merge your accounts.  We will need to know your old library card number and the new number.

cloudLibrary

If you replace your card while you have a book checked out at cloudLibrary, your account is replaced and any books you have checked out are returned.  If you have a book checked out at cloudLibrary you have two choices of what to do:

  1. Wait until you have finished your book or it reaches its due date before you replace your card.
  2. Replace your card and then check out the book again if it is available.

enki

enki creates a new account for you when you change your library card.  If you don't have anything checked out or on hold, you don't have to worry about making changes -- just use enki like you always do.  If you do have something checked out or on hold, you have two options:

  1. Wait until your book expires and check it out again and replace any holds you had on the original account.
  2. Call us at 1-408-808-2104 or email us through the form at www.sjpl.org/emediasupport and we will make a request to enki to merge your accounts.  We will need to know your old library card number and the new number.

Tutor.com

At tutor.com your library card number is usually your username.  If you change your library card number, just make sure to log in using your old card number instead of the new one.

Getting a new library card is fun!
