Become a PAR Tutor

Partner with an adult to build reading, writing, speaking, and technology skills by becoming a volunteer tutor. You’ll work with adults to meet their goals. You can volunteer as a one-on-one literacy tutor, a one-on-one ESL tutor, small class instructor, computer lab coach, or book wrangler.

Meet Steve, an Adult Learner

Tutor Requirements

  • Be 18 years or over
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have an email address
  • Commit to three hours a week, for six months or more

Small Class Instructor Requirements

  • Be 18 years or over
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have an email address
  • Commit to two hours a week, for two months or more
  • Must lead class on Zoom

Skills Needed

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English well
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Comfortable with email and basic computer skills
  • Ability to complete tutor reports
  • Willingness to learn new skills and partner with learners to design lessons
  • Flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor
