Important Update
On March 25, 2026, the SJ Access Circulating Device collection was discontinued.
The program was established through one-time COVID-19 emergency funding and has been partially refreshed through two additional one-time investments. Ongoing funding to regularly refresh and maintain the devices is not available. Recognizing the cost to maintain this collection and the current necessity to streamline and find cost savings across all budgets, the SJ Access device collection was removed from our services.
This decision was made after careful consideration of budgetary concerns, and we want you to know this decision was not made lightly. It has been our privilege to serve the community through this program.
Have a device checked out?
If a device is currently checked out on your account, you may continue to use it without interruption until it’s due date. Please return the device and charging cables to any SJPL location in person by the due date listed in your account to avoid lost item fees.
The San José Public Library's main mission is to promote lifelong learning and access to information. We strive to be a welcoming center for our community. We regret any disruption this change may cause and encourage you to explore SJ Access resources.
Why was my SJ Access device hold cancelled?
The cost of repairing, replacing, and managing the SJ Access Device Circulation program has become unsustainable and the collection will be removed from our services. Consequently, we are no longer accepting new hold requests for devices as of Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
Will my device incur late fees if not returned on time?
Devices will not incur late fees, so please return all devices even if they are overdue. Lost fees for devices that are not returned will still apply.
If you have questions or need help, please contact your local branch or at sjaccess@sjlibrary.org.
