Build a Love of Reading at Home

Family Literacy Services helps parents and caregivers build a love of reading at home. Enrolled adult learners who care for children under 18 can receive free books, family workshops, and support from Literacy and Learning Services.

Family literacy support

Enrolled adult learners and families in the program can receive:

  • Free children’s books for each child.
  • Simple ideas for reading and learning together at home.
  • Invitations to programs and events about parenting, literacy, and school readiness.
  • Help finding library programs and services for children and families.

This supports help families build routines around reading, talking, and learning together.

Why family literacy matters

Family Literacy Services gives families extra support so children can be ready for school and keep learning as they grow.

  • A parent or caregiver’s education level is a strong sign of a child’s literacy level.
  • Children in families with low literacy are more likely to have low literacy too.
