The San José Youth Commission has officially launched its annual Youth Priorities Survey, ensuring that the voices of San José’s youth are heard and considered in the decision-making process. By participating, you will help foster a sense of civic engagement and empowerment among our youth residents. This survey intends to provide a platform for our city’s youth to express their views and opinions to influence the allocation of public resources, allowing them to have a meaningful impact on the decisions that will shape their future.
Survey participants are entered in a drawing to win a pair of Apple AirPods and other prizes.
Origins of the Survey
This initiative originates from our comprehensive work plan that the Youth Commission carefully developed and will be approved by the NSE Commission to drive initiatives revolving around the youth of today in San José. The Youth Commission firmly believes that youth should have a voice in the allocation of the resources that directly affect their lives, and the Youth Budget Summit is a significant step in that direction.
Survey Contents
The survey takes approximately 10-12 minutes to complete and has 4 sections. Personal information won’t be linked to responses, and any information shared will be anonymous. All questions are optional, and survey participants may skip any question(s) that they prefer not to be answered.
- Section 1: How important are the following issues to you?
- Section 2: Education and Career Readiness
- Section 3: Safety and Community Belonging
- Section 4: About You
Looking Forward
The responses of the Youth Priorities Survey will inform the Youth Commission in preparing recommendations to the Mayor and City Council, and organizing events and initiatives designed to identify what youth priorities are. Through the annual Youth Budget Summit, coupled with the data collected from the survey, the Youth Commission will better address the priority issues of San José youth through its community service, event planning, and policy writing efforts.
As Chair Kucharewski notes, “The Youth Priorities Survey fuels the work conducted by the Youth Commission. We draw insights from this survey to better inform ourselves of what San José youth value and hope to see valued.”
