Library partners Bring the Pizzazz to the Library!
Library partners often include community organizations that collaborate with the Library to bring you even greater services. According to the Public Library Association, a partnership is a long-term relationship defined as:
- "An ongoing relationship"
- Enables fulfillment of "its mission and roles in the public library community in new or expanded ways"
- "Requires staffing"
- "Requires funding, if needed"
Cambrian Library Staff are thrilled for you to meet some of its partners on Thursday, October 9 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at its Moon Festival!
Cambrian Educational Foundation
The Cambrian Educational Foundation (CEF) raises funds for one of our Community's largest school districts, Cambrian School District. They provide additional funding beyond public funding.
According to the organization,
"The foundation supports after-school music, social-emotional learning, and mental health resources, while also providing grants to schools, teachers, and community partners. With the belief that strong schools build a strong community, CEF works closely with families, educators, and local partners to give every student the chance to succeed. Our programs and grants are made possible through community fundraising events, corporate sponsors, and the generosity of volunteers and donors.
The CEF is partnering with the Cambrian Library to provide students a chance to improve their reading skills in the annual Read-a-Thon.
Last year, top readers from every school and every grade were rewarded with books provided by the Library!
The CEF funds things like:
- School supplies and programs
- Teacher support and training
- Field trips that bring learning to life
- Community events that strengthen family and school connections
Reach Career Mentoring
Reach Career Mentoring was founded by Dr. Hoa Le and Dr. Jennifer Yang.
According to Dr. Yang,
"My husband and I both had great mentors who helped us pursue careers in medicine. That type of 1-on-1 support for people with disabilities was hard to find in the community. We founded Reach Career Mentoring because we saw that there was a need for more role models with disabilities in the workplace. In addition to virtual mentoring, and community outreach, we also visit local schools and host a Dream Career Photo Booth for students with disabilities. Our services are free to those with disabilities and we are completely volunteer-run.
According to Dr. Le,
"The rates of poverty and unemployment for people with disabilities are both more than double that of the non-disabled population. This is neither equitable nor dignified for our disabled population. Reach Career Mentoring is a grassroots organization that aims to improve these statistics."
Dr. Hoa Le and Dr. Jennifer Yang have generously partnered with Village Square and Cambrian Libraries to read stories. In addition, they have provided the Dream Career Photo Booth so that children would be able to see themselves in their future careers!
