Introducing Estante – A New Spanish Media Streaming Service!

Introducing Estante - Our New Online eResource!

After April 2025, the San Jose Public Library is happy to share our new electronic resource for Spanish speakers. Estante (The Shelf) is a new media streaming service that provides various video titles that youth of all ages will be able to enjoy – in Spanish!

In 2021, Forbes had reported that more than 559 million people globally spoke Spanish. Spanish is the second largest language spoken natively. In the U.S., Spanish speakers accounted for 13% of the population who spoke a non-English language at home. This makes Spanish the most common non-English language spoken in the country. It’s expected that by 2050, one in three people in the U.S. will speak Spanish. Being bilingual has become a valuable asset for professional development as well as a cognitive advantage for children at an early age.

Research has also indicated that positive experiences in bilingual education have contributed to cognitive development.  With the addition of "Estante" to the San Jose Public Library's collection, many young patrons will benefit from and appreciate the catalog of Spanish media available with a free library card.

Titles such as “Bob the Builder”, “Doozers”, “ZooBabu”, and “Sid Niño Cientifico” are available in Spanish, providing our young patrons with exciting stories to entertain, learn, and grow curious. Especially with titles like “ZooBabu”, this series gives viewers a fun detective experience in zoology, letting them discover all sorts of cool facts about the animal kingdom.
