What is Treehouse?
Treehouse is an e-learning platform of primarily video-based instruction, with topics aimed at high-paying jobs across the tech sector. The general focus is on the design and development of websites and mobile apps. Lessons cover skills such as data science, program management, python, and other programming languages. Treehouse aims to provide an affordable certificate program for individuals who might not have or be able to obtain a college degree. You can get free access with a library card from San José Public Library.
How to Use It
You can browse by topic to find lessons specific to your interests or peruse the curated Tracks, which are customized lists of courses and workshops that provide a guided learning path for a particular subject.
Treehouse lessons are presented in video format, with review questions in each section to keep learners engaged throughout the course. Each course shows an estimate of how much time it will take, with the estimate updating as you progress through the course. Course videos are divided up in sections that are each a few minutes long, so you can fit them into a busy schedule and make progress at your own pace.
Where to Find It
To access Treehouse, visit the SJPL website. Select Books & eResources in the menu bar, then eResources, A-Z. From there, scroll down to Treehouse.

You will need to submit a request for an account by filling out a form with your name, e-mail address, and library card number. You will then receive an e-mail with your login information, and you can start accessing Treehouse’s library of lessons. Account creation is dependent on staff availability and may be delayed on weekends and holidays.

In addition to the lessons available, Treehouse also has a variety of community features, including a forum for asking questions when working on projects; a Discord server for connecting with other users; and a monthly Community Project where users can share their work, explore others' designs, and get inspired by the creativity of fellow learners.
