NoveList is a free online readers’ advisory tool offered through San Jose Public Library. Do you enjoy discovering the latest mystery thrillers? Or are you a parent (or teacher) looking for grade appropriate material for children? Maybe you’re a prolific graphic novel reader, who will appreciate hand-picked booklists, curated by experts. You may be pleased to know that every recommendation through NoveList involves a human touch, not just an automated algorithm! 

NoveList appeals to all audiences and reading interests. NoveList offers two different databases, NoveList Plus K-8, which provides grade appropriate material for elementary and middle school students, and NoveList Plus, which includes adult and young adult titles.  

Features of NoveList Plus and NoveList Plus K-8 

  • Unique story elements: Discover reading content based on appeal, genre, and theme. 
  • Read-alikes: Find read-alikes for titles, series, and authors.  
  • Reading levels: Readers can search by Accelerated Reader levels, Lexile levels, or both. Parents and educators will also appreciate that you can filter story element search results by reading level. 
  • Series information: NoveList Plus offers full series information. 
  • Booklists: Browse hundreds of reading lists compiled by experts. Or create your own. 
  • Book Reviews: Explore book reviews from reliable sources. 

Where to Find It 

To access NoveList, visit the SJPL website. Select Books & eResources in the menu bar, then eResources, A-Z. From the A-Z Resources page, click on NoveList Plus (for adult/young adult) or NoveList Plus K-8 (for youth, grades K-8).
