Pathfinder Jessica Lundin: Host of *Virtual* One-On-One Resumé, Job Search, and Interview Skills

Pathfinder is a series of blogs about intrepid library staff who are leading interesting programs that you may not yet know about.

Jessica Lundin works as a librarian at the Dr. Roberto Cruz Alum Rock Library in San Jose.  Jessica is known to energize her co-workers with her enthusiasm for San Jose Public Library’s annual Summer Learning program and for her dedication to the summer’s annual Graphic Novel Making Contest.

Jessica brings that same energy and drive to her programs at Alum Rock.  She is responsible for producing a weekly virtual program to help people with their job search.

Background

Prior to the pandemic, Jessica provided this popular program once or twice a month.

However, due to the ease of running the program in a virtual environment through Zoom, Jessica expanded the program to meet on a weekly basis.  Jessica recognized the need for job searching and related skills in the pandemic-damaged economy.

Working with her two amazing volunteers, Patricia and Jeene, Jessica has created a valuable resource in her community.

Patricia and Jeene “really listen to people describe their situation and experiences, and tailor their advice to best suit the person they're helping. They define the one-on-one experience. If you are needing help getting back into the work force, need a new job, or even another job, sign up for this program. Our volunteers can help you prepare for that journey,” according to Jessica.

Services

Patricia and Jeene provide the following services in their Zoom classes:

  • review resumés
  • pre-review resumés if resumés are sent to ARResumeHelp@gmail.com by 3:00 PM on the Wednesday before your session
  • give tips on how to improve resumés
  • determine what information is essential
  • suggest where to look for jobs
  • advise how to apply for them
  • prepare for interviews through practice

Patricia and Jeene assist a variety of ages including teens aged 12-18 and adults.

Vietnamese language assistance is provided.
