Digital Discovery Workshops

New coding and STEM Digital Discovery Workshops this summer for kids ages 6-12.

The San José Public Library (SJPL) is thrilled to announce a summer packed with free Coding and STEAM programs designed to spark creativity and develop essential skills in young learners.

This summer, children ages 6-12 can participate in SJPL’s free Digital Discovery Workshops! Choose between shorter STEAM Learning Labs that run 1-2 hours or 1-day, 2-day and 3-day, 8-hour, Digital Discovery Workshops for an expanded experience. Coding, computer science, and digital art all help children develop a wide range of skills including pattern recognition, problem-solving, troubleshooting, creativity, collaboration, and more. 

SJPL's 1-2 hour Coding and STEAM Learning Labs are offered year-round at various branch locations. These programs cover a range of exciting STEAM topics, from augmented reality (AR) and greenscreen technology to coding. Participants will get hands-on experience in creating with computers, iPads, robots, or other devices as they complete a project.  

Looking for a full day of activities? Our Digital Discovery Workshops offer immersive 1-day, 2-day, or 3-day experiences focusing on coding and computer science! The Digital Discovery Workshops will be held at eight library branches on select weekdays starting Monday, June 9, 2025 and running until Friday, August 1, 2025. Each workshop has a mix of activities using computers, iPads, or other devices to gain hands-on experience.

Participating branches are Alum Rock, Biblioteca Latinoamericana, Educational Park, Hillview, Joyce Ellington, Tully, Edenvale, and Calabazas. Children will learn about the basics of coding, digital art, and design by working on multiple projects throughout the day. See individual event listings for more details. Registration is required.
