Your Prep Guide to New SciFi Shows 2025!

It looks like there are some exciting new shows in the science fiction genre about to be launched for our viewing pleasure. While movies have their merits (especially those listed below), I personally prefer the longer form tv series which can really delve into plotlines and character development. Three of the shows that I am most excited for are going to be released in the near future. These are Murderbot (based on the book series by Martha Wells), Alien:Earth (a prequel series to the Ridley Scott Alien films), and Blade Runner 2099 (based upon a novel by Philip K Dick which became one of my favorite films ever, the 1982 epic Blade Runner).

Okay fine, I'll admit it. I really like a majority of Ridley Scott's work, with a few notable exceptions.

An argument could be made that the first science fiction novel was a work created one stormy night on the shores of Lake Geneva, through the pen of one Mary Shelley. Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, is definitely worthy of its' accolades (and will be further explored in a future blog). This work was followed by other formative works by the writers Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, and Edgar Rice Burroughs. The modern science fiction genre is marked by a variety of tropes including (but not limited to): future worlds, time travel, alternative histories, space travel, robots/androids, and vast advances in technology. It's a wildly creative fiction genre.

Final Thoughts:

  1. Last year at this time I delved into the Post-Apocalyptic genre, timing my blogs with the release of Mad Max Furiosa and the Amazon Prime show Fallout.
  2. This year I've timed this blog to release one week prior to the premiere episode of Murderbot.
  3. No, I did not write this blog because I have a crush on the main actor from Murderbot. I really am this nerdy.
  4. My nerd cred stretches all the way back to 1977 when I first saw the movie "Star Wars" (at one of the last drive in movie theaters in Western PA).
  5. I know all the words to the song "Lapti Nek", which was sung by Sy Snootles and The Max Rebo Band in the original cut of "The Return of the Jedi".
  6. See...nerdy.
