Back in the early 2000s, I lived in San Carlos CA (just a 40-minute drive North of San Jose) and spent quite a bit of time at the Hiller Aviation Museum. This Museum is truly a treasure of flight history, with some replicas of various planes, a collection of jet engines, and even a Boeing 747 that you can climb into the cockpit and maneuver the various gears. The neighboring airport hosts flight lessons. And the Museum itself hosts quite a number of activities for children and adults. I highly recommend the FMX Flight Simulator which helps you learn how to fly and land and is based on the actual technology used in Flight Schools. I went to a Great Gatsby themed fundraiser for the Museum and had such a wonderful time that my family and friends returned for my birthday one week later.
This experience at Hiller inspired to look at some books we have in our collection, detailing the history of Aviation, Flight, and Military Aircraft.
