July 24th marks the 56th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. The Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that took the astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins to the Moon. This, by all accounts, was an epic event in history and in the field of science. The astronauts were retrieved from the Pacific Ocean (after their reentry), by the USS Hornet, which is now docked in Alameda CA.
The USS Hornet itself has an amazing history and serves as a museum. If you have a chance to visit, I highly recommend it. Also, they are hosting an event on Saturday July 19th to commemorate the Apollo 11 Splashdown Anniversary.
