Silicon Valley Reads 2026: Bridges to Belonging

Community Reading: January – March 2025

Offered from mid-January to the end of March 2026, Silicon Valley Reads is an annual community program that selects books focused on a contemporary theme. It offers free events to Santa Clara County residents. These events seek to engage our community in reading, thinking, and discussing the topic. There are two goals:

  • Encourage the love of reading and learning.
  • Offer a welcoming forum where our diverse community can come together to share different perspectives.

This year's theme is Bridges to Belonging. We'll explore how we can build bridges - to one another, to our families, and to our communities - to create genuine belonging. This year's books inspire reflection on the bridges we build and those still needed. We're looking forward to many meaningful conversations about creating a more connected, compassionate community.

Kickoff Event: Thursday, January 15

The 2025 Silicon Valley Reads kickoff event will be on Thursday, January 15, 2025, at 7:00 PM. San Jose Mercury News columnist Sal Pizarro will moderate a thought-provoking conversation with authors John A. Powell (The Power of Bridging), Keonna Harris (Mainline Mama), and Annie Harnett (Unlikely Animals). After the conversation, the books will be on sale in the lobby, and the authors will be available to sign copies.

You can register to either attend the event in person at the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) at De Anza College, or register to watch the live-streamed event. Adjacent to VPAC at De Anza, the Euphrat Museum of Art will be showing a companion exhibit, A Sense of Belonging, which will open at the kickoff event and run until March 14.

Silicon Valley Reads is presented by San José Public Library, Santa Clara County Library District, and the Santa Clara County Office of Education.
