Navigating the Impact of the Federal Government Shutdown on SNAP Benefits: What San Jose Residents Need to Know

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), known in California as CalFresh, is a federally funded program that provides food assistance to approximately 130,000 residents in Santa Clara County. On October 1st 2025, the United States federal government began a shutdown, leading to a disruption of SNAP funds amongst several other federal government functions and services.

What does this mean for CalFresh?

According to the California Department of Social Services, November CalFresh benefits have been delayed. Funding will only be partially available for CalFresh benefits during this time.
