In recent years there has been an upsurge in the making of movies based upon gaming content. Part of this may be due to the higher quality imaging and sounds that now exist in games. We are definitely a long way from the early days of the video game arcades that were prevalent in my youth. I remember bothering my parents for quarters at the local pizza place so I could play Pac-Man and Space Invaders. Eventually home gaming systems were made available, ushering in a whole new experience in the realm of gaming. I'm definitely NOT what most people would consider a "gamer". But I have dipped my toes into the realm off and on over the course of the past 20 or so years. I have my favorites: Diablo II and Age of Empires immediately come to mind. I've also enjoyed Fallout and several versions of Assassin's Creed. (Unfortunately, my Sims characters are probably STILL waiting to be fed). But I'm not a dedicated gamer. I do, however, enjoy a wide variety of movies and have noticed that there has been more content created recently based on both classic and recent games. And there's much more to come! In 2026, we will see the release of The Return to Silent Hill, Mortal Kombat II, Street Fighter, and a Resident Evil reboot. Until then, check out this curated list of Movies (and Series) Based on Games.
