Writing prompt: Romance

It has been said that when writers start a new work, they often start not with the characters, but with the dynamics between least two people. This can, potentially, lead to the topic of romance. There’s also something universal about love, something that everyone can relate to. Whether it’s the frustration of unrequited love, the glory of a new relationship, or the bitterness of a breakup, your story has a minimum of two characters having some type of interaction with each other that needs to be described. What that looks like is up to you. What makes this romance special? What provides the chemistry between the two characters? Do opposites attract? Does one of them harbor a secret from the other? Do they have a long history together, or did they just meet? What makes them attracted to one another? What might have brought them together? Where might be the bumps in the road that they need to work through to stay together?

Romance is a good topic to write about because this is something that almost everyone has experienced, or at least has wanted to. It’s part of the human condition, and something we can all relate to in one form or another. Having a romantic connection with another human being is one of the most powerful emotions there is, and it can be one of the most wonderful or terrible feelings imaginable. There is power in that connection and how it is expressed. There is power in writing about it as well. So get writing, and feel the love!
