
250 Years
America is turning 250 years old, and the country is celebrating!
Marking the ratification of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, Independence Day commemorates the founding of the United State of America. From barbecues to fireworks to public events and activities, there's lots to enjoy on this fun summer holiday.
Independence Day Events
On the day before the holiday, Friday July 3rd, public television stations will show A Capitol Fourth starting at 5:00 PM PST, featuring a musical concert and fireworks in Washington D.C. The event will also be livestreamed on the PBS website.
Here in San José, on Saturday July 4th, the 19th annual Rose, White & Blue Parade will take place from 10:00 AM to about 12:00 PM, with the accompanying festival held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. These events are free and open to the public.
The City of San José, including all SJPL locations, will be closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday.
A Note on Fireworks
The use, possession, and sale of all types of fireworks is illegal in San José. The City of San José provides information on fireworks laws, FAQs, and guidance on celebrating the 4th of July safely.
