A Hawaiian Travelogue Pt. 1

Truly one of the most beautiful places to visit in the United States are the Hawaiian Islands.  Hawaii is made up of eight main islands: Kaua'i, O'ahu, Maui, and Hawai'i (also known as The Big Island), as well as Moloka'i, Lana'i, Ni'ihau, and Kaho'olawe. The first four islands are popular tourist destinations for visitors from all over the world. Moloka'i and Lana'i are not as popular but do see some visitation. However, the island of Ni'ihau is under the private ownership of the Robinson Family and they choose who has the right to visit their island. Kaho'olawe is a nature preserve, has no inhabitants, and is only accessible to Native Hawaiians.

Here at San Jose Public Library, we have a vast selection of travel books for the islands of Hawaii. But in this blog, we are going to take a look at Hawaii represented in fiction novels and in movies. This is truly a beautiful place with an amazing mix of cultures, and an interesting way to see it is through the lens of novelists and filmmakers.
