Mother’s Day: Honoring the Heart of the Family

As we approach Mother's Day on Sunday May 11, it's a perfect time to reflect on the incredible impact mothers have on our lives. Mothers are the pillars of strength, love, and guidance, shaping us into the people we are today. Their unwavering support and sacrifices are the foundation upon which we build our futures. Whether it's a biological mother, stepmother, grandmother, or any woman who has played a motherly role, this day is a celebration of their love and dedication.

A Brief History of Mother's Day

Mother's Day, as we know it today, originated in the United States. Anna Jarvis, inspired by her mother's work in promoting women's health and friendship, held the first Mother's Day service in 1907 at her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia. By 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day, making it a national holiday. The tradition has roots in ancient cultures and festivals honoring mother goddesses, and it also draws from the European tradition of Mothering Sunday, celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Today, Mother's Day is observed in many countries around the world, each with its own unique traditions and dates.
