Honoring our educators

The San José Public Library (SJPL) is proud to honor outstanding educators who make a difference in our community.

As the City's department leading the City of San José’s Education Initiative, opens a new window, we deeply value the dedication and impact of teachers and educators. Their commitment to excellence in education helps students discover new possibilities and inspires a lifelong love of learning that extends far beyond the classroom.

Each award recipient will be recognized with an official commendation from the San José City Council, celebrating their outstanding contributions to education. Honorees will also receive a $500 award made possible through the generous support of the San José Public Library Foundation.

We thank you for being the cornerstone of our community's future.

2026 Educators of the Year

Keri Robles

Hayes Elementary School, Oak Grove School District

"Teaching isn’t just about the content. It’s about understanding how each student learns, what motivates them, and where they struggle. When you see students as individuals, your teaching becomes more meaningful and effective. That curiosity helps you adjust when something isn’t working, support those who need it, and challenge those who are ready for more."

Michael Foust

Dartmouth Middle School, Santa Clara County Office of Education

"I hope my students come to understand that their thoughts, feelings, and opinions deeply matter and should not be kept to themselves. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes; go out and do whatever you need to get your voices heard. One day your voices will reverberate throughout the world!"

Sarah Wasi

Rise Academy, Santa Clara Unified School District

"Every child is extraordinary in their own way. They've taught me to slow down, meet them where they are, and see the world through their eyes. That perspective has made me not just a better teacher, but a better person."

Kyle Markwalter

Willow Glen High School, San José Unified School District

"I hope that students remember that it is ok to fail. It is ok to be nerdy. It is ok to laugh while you learn. It is ok to not know what to do next. But our job is to strive to be better than the people who came before us so that we can help our world move forward."

Cinthia Vines Rodriguez

Independence High School, Santa Clara County Office of Education

"I hope my students come to recognize just how capable they truly are. More than anything, I want them to feel proud of themselves and all they accomplish. I will always be rooting for them, and I want them to know that I will continue to advocate for them --always!"
