We're excited to announce that the San José Public Library (SJPL) is partnering with Institute of Contemporary Art San José (ICA) on a limited-edition library card featuring artwork by artist Greg Ito. The library card features artwork from Ito’s new solo exhibition, To Give and Take, opening at ICA San José on September 18, 2026.
About the Library Card and Partnership

The limited-edition library card features Ito’s The Giving Tree (2023), an acrylic painting on canvas over panel and will be available during the exhibit's opening celebration.
This collaboration marks SJPL’s first partnership with a museum around an active exhibition. SJPL and ICA San José plan to create opportunities that connect literature and art through programs, books, and library resources.
The partnership also encourages ICA visitors to resources available through SJPL while encouraging library users and families to explore ICA San José and its free exhibitions.
About the Artist & Exhibit
Greg Ito is a Los Angeles-based, Bay Area-trained artist. His work in To Give and Take draws from personal narrative and collective memory, including his recent experience of becoming a father and thinking about what one generation leaves behind for the next. The exhibit explores themes of sacrifice, inheritance, renewal, and what one generation leaves behind for the next. Inspired by Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, the exhibition considers how the story’s meaning changes over time and explores what one generation gives and leaves behind for the next.
To Give and Take will be on view at ICA San José from September 18, 2026, through February 21, 2027. ICA San José is a free museum in downtown San José featuring diverse exhibitions and programs for the community.
