My Heart Belongs to The Ocean

We still have some beautiful Summer weather outside, and I'm spending my days enjoying day trips to the Coastal areas, loving the waves, the beach, and the wildlife. My most recent adventure took me to Monterey, where I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium, walked through Cannery Row, and went to the Coast Guard Docks to visit some wonderful (but sleepy) sea lions! They were lounging on the rocks just below the dock area, taking their afternoon naps.

We are so lucky to have access to the work done at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Because of their research and the rescue efforts, we have a deeper understanding of our neighboring ocean and its denizens. This will ensure that future generations have knowledge of, and a responsibility to the Ocean and the animals and plants within it.

Since we are dedicated to lifelong learning here at San Jose Public Library: why not take some time and read about some wonderful Marine Mammals? And then make a visit to one of the facilities dedicated to research and rescue with our Discover & Go passes? I highly recommend visiting the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito and The Seymour Marine Discovery Center in Santa Cruz.

Romp!

By all accounts Otter 841 has not been seen recently in the waters near Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz, but that doesn't stop me from continuing to fangirl over my favorite Surfing Otter! Check out my blog from the summer of 2023 featuring Santa Cruz's Surfing Otter!
