Explore California's History
San José Public Library is pleased to offer the Newspapers.com California Collection as a new eResource. Newspapers.com California Collection provides access to over 500 California newspaper archives. Read historical accounts from newspapers spanning the state from Eureka to Chula Vista (not including the San José Mercury News).
With Newspapers.com you can research archive databases, news articles and clippings made by other users to help uncover California history, your genealogy and family stories. After you sign in with your library card number and PIN, enter a keyword like a newspaper name, location, or family name in the search bar and begin exploring. Under the "Get Started" heading on the Home Page, you'll find tutorials and videos to help you learn how to use the site.
Save and Share Your Discoveries
Newspapers.com allows you to clip, print, save and share articles. In order to use these features, you'll need to register on the site with an e-mail address and password. This may allow Newspapers.com to send you promotional e-mails, but you can request to receive no e-mails by changing the preferences in your profile.
