Hobbit Day is a celebration that takes place on September 22nd every year. This holiday was first established by the American Tolkien Society in 1978, in honor of the shared birthday of two beloved characters from Tolkien's works, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. How does one celebrate this day? I'm inclined to suggest a viewing of the movies (especially the first one), and the sharing of food, drinks, and singing. Extra points for knowing all the words to the song "That's What Bilbo Baggins Hates" (carefully carefully with the plates!).

The Spiritual World of the Hobbit
I've had several friends travel to New Zealand to see the filming locations, and they all love Hobbiton in particular. There is also a yearly celebration held there on Hobbit Day, complete with feasting and drinking, storytelling and songs. It is quite the celebration!
FYI: There is a Swedish language version of the book The Hobbit, illustrated by Tove Jansson (the creator of Moomins). I would absolutely LOVE to have a copy of it.
