San Jose Sharks Library Card
The San José Public Library (SJPL) and the San Jose Sharks first teamed up in 2019 to launch the first-ever Sharks themed library card. The limited-edition “Stealth” design featured the Sharks’ Stealth color scheme. It was unveiled at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library on February 1, 2019, bringing together library leaders, community partners, and the best hockey fans in the league. Sharks fans reacted immediately. In the first 72 hours of the release on February 4, 2019, SJPL issued 1,458 Sharks library cards.
In 2022, the Sharks and SJPL teamed up again with a new permanent card design. It debuted at the Sharks home opener on October 14, 2022, and became available at all SJPL locations on October 15, 2022. Since the card was first released through February 2026, we have issued nearly 50,000 SJ Sharks library cards, connecting thousands of fans to free library services.

Our SJPL x SJ Sharks library card collaboration earned a 2019 Top Innovator Award from the Urban Libraries Council (ULC) for “Co-Branding Library Cards to Increase Memberships.”
