San José Public Library (SJPL) is excited to announce an upgrade for our library software system! Referred to as the Integrated Library System (ILS), this software enterprise allows us to securely manage the thousands of patron records and millions of information resources in our databases and collections.
What is an ILS?
An ILS is a platform used by libraries to manage collections and catalog records, patron accounts, as well as the acquisition and circulation of library materials. The ILS also supports streamlined integrations with vendors such as Libby and LINK+.
Why is the library upgrading software?
The library has used our current ILS for over 20 years. Upgrading software to modernized technology features will enhance the way customers engage with SJPL materials, events, programs, and more. The new software will also enhance the way staff manage records and optimize our use of data to drive decision making.
Service Impacts
Due to the scope and complexity of this project, some library services will be temporarily paused at different facets of the transition through March 2027. Upcoming service impacts and timelines will be further detailed in the ILS Upgrade Project and FAQs pages.
Supporting Your Library Access
SJPL members can continue to borrow materials from SJPL’s own collection, as well as attend events, programs, and other services. We will work diligently to avoid disruptions as much as possible and will be ready to help customers navigate changes along the way.
