Which library card is right for me?

Our Full Access Library Card is FREE and available to California residents, choose from a variety of physical card designs and access our full range of services and resources: 

  • 24/7 Access: Explore our Library’s online resources anytime, anywhere. 
  • Check Out: Borrow books, movies, music, audiobooks, and more to your heart's content.
  • Tech Devices: Borrow SJ Access mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, laptops, and other tech devices. 
  • Computer & Printing: Use our computers and printers, and book rooms for your studies, work, or events. 
  • Educational Opportunities: San Jose residents ages 19+ can apply for a free online high school diploma program.

We also offer the following card options that have access similar to our Full Access Card with some differences:

  • Limited Status Card: Do you live in California and want access to our physical collection and all eResources but can't show proof of address? Visit any of our locations, in person, and talk with a staff member when you arrive to pick up your card.
  • Student Card: Access to our physical collection and all of our eResources for students in participating San Jose School Districts.
  • Educator Card: Extended checkouts and renewal periods for adults (18+) who work for a preschool or K-12 school (public, charter, private) that is located in the San Jose.

What if I am not located in California?: We do not issue San José Public Library cards to anyone living outside California.
