Replacement and Refund Policy
Statement of Policy & Text
Neither the San José Public Library nor San José State Univeristy issue refunds for materials paid for by customers. If a customer pays for an item and subsequently finds the item, the item is the property of the customer who paid for it. The customer has the option of keeping the item or donating it back to the library. Purchasing the item lost for replacement is not accepted for items owned by the San José Public Library or San José State Univeristy.
Need for the Policy
To establish a consistent policy for material refunds and regarding payment in-kind for materials owned by each institution.
Requirements & Guidelines
- Payment in-kind is not accepted for lost or damaged items owned by the San José Public Library or San José State University.
- Payment in-kind is not accepted for overdue fines owed on returned library materials, or in lieu of any other fee or charge owed or incurred by the customer.
- Under no circumstances may customers work in the library in lieu of payment of fines, charges for lost or damaged materials, or any other charge owed or incurred by the customer.
