Q. What is Open+?

With Open+, you can use the library outside of normal, staffed operating hours.  All you need to become an Open+ member is a library card in good standing. 


Q. How can I start using Open+?

Customers 18 years of age or older must meet these requirements: 

  • Have a current SJPL library card in good standing. 
  • Complete the Open+ Agreement Form. 
  • Attend an Open+ Orientation with library staff in person. 

Q. How does Open+ work?

You can use your own library card to gain entry to the library during Open+ hours. For your card to work, you must meet the following requirements: 

  • Have a current SJPL library card in good standing.
  • Completed the Open+ Agreement Form.
  • Attended an Open+ Orientation with library staff in person.

Q. What can I do with Open+?

  • Pick up holds 
  • Browse library collections and use the catalog 
  • Use self-checkout machines 
  • Use computers, printing, and Wi-Fi (wifi) 
  • Study Rooms 
  • Restrooms 

Community Rooms will NOT be available. 


Q. What assistance is available during Open+?

Open+ hours are unstaffed and self-serve. You may leave a comment, question, or concern in the comments box near the Info Desk.

Q. Do you have security cameras during Open+?

Yes. There 21 internal and external security cameras. These cameras are activated during Open+ hours. These cameras are never used during regular library hours. They are motion-activated after regular library hours and before Open+ hours. 

They are subject to the same privacy policy as our other surveillance cameras. 


Q. Can I bring a guest with me during Open+?

No. 

  • Open+ approved access is not transferable or to be shared with unapproved users. 
  • Registered Open+ customers may not open the library to non-registered customers. 

Q. I’m under 18? How can I use Open+?

You must be accompanied by an adult. 


Q. Can I use a study room during Open+ hours?

The study rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
