Rock's Backpages: The Online Library of Music Journalism

Rock's Backpages features the work of some of the best known music journalists of the rock era, writing for a wide range of publications including Creem, Rolling Stone, Mojo, and more. With more than 35,000 articles in the archive and growing, this is THE place to find all you want to know about the greatest musicians of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Are you looking for an article about an obscure rocker? You'll find that here, too!

Audio Archives

In addition to the print archive, Rock's Backpages also offers more than 550 audio interviews that can be downloaded. These recordings come from the journalists' own tapes, so you can read the article and hear the artist's own words.

Using Rock's Backpages is easy!

All you have to do to get started is go to www.rocksbackpages.com and log in with your library card. Look down the menu on the left side of the screen -- the login is about half-way down. Once you've logged in, you're ready to start browsing or searching.

In addition to articles and audio files, you can find profiles of bands, artists, writers, and publications. Want to find out more about Rolling Stone? There's a little profile along with a list of the articles that are available from that publication. Get ready to spend all morning reading articles and learning more about your favorites!

Start Searching

Get started by browsing on the home page or search for your favorite band. There is a simple search box in the upper right corner of every page. Need a more complex search? No problem - start with a simple search and then choose "Advanced Search" in the results (see below).

The Advanced Search gives you so many options and lets you narrow things down a lot! You can choose a time period, subject or genre (and the sheer number of subjects and genres to choose from is amazing!), writer, publication, type of piece (review, interview, obituary, sleeve notes, etc), and format (print, audio).
