New Library Cards for the New Year

Introducing the New San José Public Library Cards

The San José Public Library is excited to announce the launch of the new library card designs. Stop by any branch library on Saturday, January 7, 2017, to exchange your library card for one of the new designs or sign up to become a library member! Remember to show off your new card on social media using #408Creates and #RightToLibrary.

Exchanging your current card for a new one requires the issuance of a new library card number.

About the New Cards

Branch libraries received a total of 544 designs entries for the Library Card Design Contest, and 72 of those designs were considered as finalists in the categories of Children, Teens, and Adults. Over ten thousand public votes helped determine the Public Choice Award for each category. The Judges' Choice Award determined another three winners, one from each category.

I loved learning about how each artist came up with the idea for their work. The hard part will be choosing which one will be my new card, I'd be proud to use any of them!

Such great designs, love that they are local and with such meaning, love that our library is keeping up with the times with cool projects like this.

Had fun deciphering the Braille phrases on Untitled by Jeffrey B's card! : )

loved all the stories behind each card. made me want a new card, so inspired!
