Position and Duties

The San Jose Public Library is currently recruiting a Learning and Development Analyst.  This is an exciting opportunity to create innovative learning opportunities for all Library staff.  Duties include:

  • Design, develop, and implement the department’s system-wide learning, development and training, conducting needs assessments, researching training classes/programs, evaluating content from professional organizations, vendors, and in-house experts, and making appropriate recommendations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate multiple training classes, manage a training budget, track all trainings/attendees, utilize and manage a Learning Management System.
  • Develop and coordinate the department’s On-Boarding Process, including creating on-boarding tools/resources for supervisors, maintaining the department’s New Employee Orientation, developing and facilitating Library Academies (specialized multi-day trainings) and New Manager and Supervisor Training
  • Research and explore training best practices for multiple department classifications, and maintain the training SharePoint site to disseminate department-wide communications, catalogue of classes, and calendar of training events
  • In coordination with Library leadership, develop a Learning and Development Training Workplan and develop smaller scale training plans for Library initiatives
  • Supervise two part time staff and supervise the “On-call” substitute pool, including developing and maintaining On-call policies and procedures, hiring, onboarding, and supervision of On-call Staff
  • Participate in the follow as needed: department in-service event planning, engagement activities, recruitment outreach events, and succession planning

The position requires strong creative and organizational skills and the ability effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats.  A strong customer service perspective is critical to this role.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
Analyst I & II: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience
Analyst II: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional staff analytic or administrative experience conducting studies, organizing and analyzing data, and preparing reports, recommendations, or conclusions for a functional area in budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration, or human resources.
Acceptable Substitutions
Additional years of experience in a position comparable to the Staff Specialist with the City of San José in areas such as budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration or human resources may be substituted for the education
