Meditation And Gentle Yoga

Sage Patanjali, codifier of Yoga Sutras defines yoga, as “Yogah Samadhih” meaning Yoga is Samadhi. He describes Yoga as a “state”, and the techniques to achieve that state are referred to as Ashtanga Yoga. Though, there are many types of yoga, the goal is single, i.e., “Self-realization through self-transformation”.

These techniques as taught by Swami Rama of Himalayas is a systematic and scientific approach to yoga based on Ashtanga yoga or eightfold path of Patanjali. It addresses all levels of our existence and trains the body, breath and mind for a journey within bringing stability, peace and calmness in life to achieve higher pursuits. It will include, gentle hatha (Joints & Glands exercises), preliminary breathing practices (pranayama), relaxation and beginning meditation practices. Recommended for adults of any age and any physical activity level. No previous experience of yoga or meditation is necessary.

Material needed for the class

  • Yoga mat
  • Blanket and a shawl
  • Small pillow for the neck
  • Eye shade or something to cover the eyes

Pre-requisite

  • At least 3-4 hours gap from last heavy meal
  • Wear comfortable clothing and cotton socks
