2019 is almost over so I'm sharing a few of my favorite things from this year... not just my favorite books or movies, but also memorable events and more from this year. What was memorable for you this year?
Memorable Movies & Shows
I don't watch movies and TV as much as I read, but there were definitely a few movies and shows I watched this year that I loved. While we don't have them available electronically to watch, you can still explore the books the shows are based on, listen to soundtracks, or read prequels inspired by them.
While Hamilton isn't new, the show enjoyed a run in San Francisco this year and I got a chance to take my cousin to see it for her first time. It was still as amazing as it was the last time I saw it and had me listening to the soundtrack over and over again. Thankfully the soundtrack is available from Hoopla and we even have the libretto as an eBook and eAudiobook as well as Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton biography that inspired the show.
While I've been to Los Angeles many times in the past, mostly to Hollywood, Griffith Observatory, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art, I've never spent much time in DTLA (downtown LA). I spent a long weekend there this fall and really enjoyed the architecture and history of the city. We got to take a ride on Angel's Flight, visited Los Angeles Public Library Central Branch, Bradbury Building, El Pueblo de Los Angeles, Getty Center, and more.
Galaxy's Edge & Beyond
This year saw the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. I've visited in Disneyland and loved the theming and immersive feeling to the land. I can't wait to experience Rise of the Resistance once it opens here in January. 2019 also gave us The Mandalorian (who could resist Baby Yoda?) and in a couple of days, we'll have Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. It's a good time to be a Star Wars fan!
