Digital escape rooms are popular amongst teachers who find they help keep their student’s interest in learning.  Designed to test basic knowledge in all subjects by using clues that must be solved in order to progress a given storyline, digital escape rooms offer an entertaining way to test your own cleverness.  They are great for use in classrooms as well as at your next online social gathering.  They are often engrossing, and mentally challenging, but most often they are just fun and a great way to enjoy the things you find interesting, depending on their theme.  Below are three digital escape rooms, created by ingenious librarians, you can try for yourself.

Seeking Sanctuary in San Jose, CA

SJPL Librarians, Jessica Chung, Shih Fa Kao, Melissa Maglio, and Yannina Yang bring you their own version of a digital scavenger hunt based around a post-apocalyptic world where zombies have taken over the streets of San Jose, California.

Search for your friend who has managed to shelter themselves away from the dangerous outside world.  Hunt for their secret location as you race around the City of San Jose solving clues and dodging hungry zombies.  Filled with challenging clues using many historical and informational facts about the City of San Jose, you’ll enjoy piecing together clues that will lead you to your friend and to safety.  Ages 10+

Tiger King Digital Escape Room

SJPL Librarian Melissa Maglio, fascinated by the crazy storylines of Netflix’s popular docuseries The Tiger King, created a digital escape room based on this binge worthy series.  While you don’t need to be a fan of the docuseries, or have even seen an episode, you’ll enjoy trying to solve the clues that will help you to escape from a hungry tiger’s cage.  Fans of the docuseries will enjoy the clever references to some of the series most dramatic moments.  Ages 10+

Hogwarts Escape Room

Librarian Sydney Krawiec from The Peters Township Public Library in McMurray, Pennsylvania created this fun, digital escape room which has garnered over 225,000 players in 22 countries since March of this year.  Great for all ages and even better for dedicated Harry Potter Fans, this escape room allows you to become a 1st year at Hogawarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and solve your way out of locked rooms and back into the comfort of your new house common room.
