YA Friday: Three Years Later…

It's been three years since the first YA Friday post. Since then, there have been over 150 uninterrupted weeks of YA recommendations, 36 monthly wrap-ups, over 1,500 recommended books and over 6,000 page views!

YA Friday has continued to flourish, with other staff members collaborating on YA Friday posts and sharing some of their favorite books, and creating themed feature posts to look forward to each month.

In honor of YA Friday's third birthday, I decided to highlight some of my favorite blog posts from this past year.

Favorite Blogs

YA Friday: Folklore & YA Friday: Evermore

Taylor Swift dropped not one, but two surprise albums this past year, and it was so much fun to pair YA books with each of the new songs on both albums!

YA Friday: Black Girl Magic

Witchcraft is definitely having a moment in popular culture right now and with the increased efforts to build authentic diversity and inclusivity, the tides are changing for the better with the type of characters—and the type of witches—we’re beginning to see at the forefront of stories. This post was fun to focus on all of the great YA with stories centered around powerful and talented black girls with magic.

YA Friday: VOTE

November 2020 was host to a big decision in the United States, so Leizel and I rounded up a collection of fiction and nonfiction about the election process to encourage voters to make their voices heard each election.

YA Friday: Among Us

Among Us, a game about decieveing those around you, became extremely popular during quarantine and this post was fun to highlight some YA thrillers and mysteries where you aren't quite sure who to trust, especially the one telling the story.

YA Friday: The Mock Printz "Prince" Awards 2021

Discussing YA books with others is one of my favorite things to do as a librarian, and in this mock committee, we get to learn such awesome skills while having fun with our coworkers and vote on some of our favorite YA books published over the past year.
