Women Returners Workgroup

Group of diverse women in a meeting

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the labor market with many Americans getting laid off, going on unemployment or taking lower wage jobs to pay the bills. However, working women have disproportionately been harmed by the pandemic. According to the 2020 Brookings Institute’s Gender Equality Series, the unemployment rate for women jumped by more than 12 percentage points between February and April 2020 while the rate for men increased by less than 10 percentage points. Women were either forced to leave their jobs or voluntarily left in order to take care of their families.

While the pandemic has led to a dramatic "career break" for many in the workforce, a majority of women are already familiar with the concept. A "career break" is different for each individual and can last from one year to 10+ years. After an extended time away, many returners find the job search to be challenging, particularly when faced with the stigma of career breaks as well as changes to the workplace environment. To assist those seeking to return to the workforce after a break, SJPL Works is partnering with Women Back to Work for SJPL Women Returners Workgroup.

This virtual workshop allows for women returners to meet and collaborate with each other in order to help build their confidence and strengthen their existing skills for meaningful employment. This will be a 6-session workshop that will take place every 3rd Wednesday of the month from May-October. Each month will explore a different topic and have exercises that will help participants with their resume and job search. Additionally, while the workshop is titled "Women Returners" all are welcomed to join.

Hi!
Thank you for hosting these sessions. I have a required commitment from 2 to 3 PM on Wednesdays, so I will only be able to join for the first half hour. Would you consider recording the sessions so I can watch the last half hour later?
Thanks

Similar to the question, above, is there a way to audit or participate not at this particular time frame? I would love to learn from this course, but that time of day is right in the middle of my parenting responsibilities.
