Volunteer Interview

  1. As a child…
I loved spending time in the library! My mom would take my brother and I after school to pick up books, check out movies, or just to hang out. Those memories with my family are so precious and played a significant role in establishing my love of books and my deep appreciation for libraries as a public space.
  2. My role model…
Is my mom! Not only for her unconditional love and support, but for ceaseless encouragement. If not for her love of literature and belief in the value of education, I wouldn’t be who I am today. The support that she provided to me as a young reader is an inspiration for me when I read with kids in the library.
  3. Libraries are…
Places to learn and grow, with resources you would never even think of!
  4. What is your biggest accomplishment as a volunteer? What made you the proudest?
As a volunteer, I feel proudest when the kids I read with express interest in reading books that they initially felt were too tough. I love when kids can overcome feelings of shyness and inadequacy to let themselves experience books without feeling that they have to get every word or sentence right as they read.
  5. Do you feel like your experiences and contributions are recognized?
I feel so appreciated by the kids and parents I volunteer with. Each week, they let me know how much they enjoy the time we spend together. It never fails to make me feel valued. Additionally, the library staff is always so kind and never fails to make me feel that my contributions are recognized. Lisa makes every week a joy and reminds me of how much I’m appreciated.
