Romances of the Month: November 2018
Welcome to Romances of the Month! This is a monthly blog that offers a round-up of a couple of romance books that I've read for the month, and where I will also share my reviews of each book!
Shimmy Bang Sparkle by Nicola Rendell
All Nick Norton wants is to stay on the straight and narrow...and never get caught stealing again. Then he lays eyes on her Stella Peretti--100 percent sexy and absolutely irresistible, especially when he sees her smooth moves lifting a two-karat diamond. Nick realizes he's found the sparkling woman of his dreams--one so perfect for him it's almost criminal. The Shimmy Shimmy Bangs are master jewel thieves who are planning the heist of the century, and Shimmy leader, Stella, isn't about to let anyone--even if he is a hunky, tatted-up studmuffin--get in her way. However, when two of her girls are put out of commission, Stella realizes that Nick isn't just a red-hot distraction; he might be the answer to her pilfering prayers. Now, Nick and Stella are putting everything on the line for one last job, but when two thieves have this much chemistry, it's only a matter of time before somebody's heart gets stolen.
I absolutely enjoyed Shimmy Bang Sparkle! I thought that the romance between Nick and Stella was perfect! The two fell fast and hard for each other, and while I'm usually not one for insta-love, Nick and Stella's romance just worked. I loved their flirty banters and their amazing chemistry, which made for some really hot sexy time! Another character I loved in this book was Priscilla, the dachshund, she was so adorable and hilarious. I also really enjoyed the heist aspect of the story, it was fun reading how the two worked and planned it together. The actual heist was quite suspenseful as I was on pins and needles hoping that the two will be able to pull it off. Overall, Shimmy Bang Sparkle was simply a very fun and sexy romance book.
The Controversial Princess by Jodi Ellen Malpas
Her father is the King of England. Regarded as down to earth by the press and rebellious by The King, Princess Adeline refuses to bow to the royal expectations her title carries. Especially, the King’s demand for her to marry a man she does not love. Despite Adeline’s determination to retain her free will, she remains deeply unfulfilled, feeling caged and suffocated. That is until she meets Josh Jameson. Drawn in by his confidence, Adeline is soon captivated by the scandalously sexy American actor. His ability to penetrate her defenses overwhelms her - his touch is pure fire, and his allure overpowering. Nothing has ever made her feel so alive in a world where she’s otherwise slowly drowning. However, while Josh may be Hollywood royalty, he’s not actual royalty, and Adeline knows The King and his advisors will do everything in their power to keep them apart. However, Josh Jameson becomes the princess’s ultimate vice, and although she bows to no one, she bows to him.
The Controversial Princess is not your typical fairy tale royal romance, this is one hot read! Right from the beginning Adeline and Josh had an instantly explosive chemistry. Josh was very charmingly smooth and dominant, while Adeline was confident and strong, together the two had some seriously scorching hot love scenes! I also really enjoyed the forbidden romance as you can't help but root for Adeline and Josh and hope that all the secret rendezvous and little moments together will lead to their happily ever after. However, there were lots of obstacles standing in their way, particularly strict royal protocols since Adeline is the Princess of England, and a Hollywood actor is not ideal for the princess, as well as some scheming royal advisors doing their best to drive a wedge between them. The book ends on a bunch of twists, reveals, and a major cliffhanger which will surely leave readers eager to read the next book in the duology, His True Queen. I definitely recommend The Controversial Princess for anyone looking for a very sexy royal romance read!
Dirty Billionaire by Meghan March
Billionaire Creighton Karas always gets what he wants, and he wants Holly Wix, a rising country singer. After the two share a very passionate night together, Holly quickly flees leaving Creighton with no name or number. In order to find her again, Creighton sends out a viral marriage proposal. Holly, wanting to escape her tough situation with her record company's demands, accepts Creighton's proposal. The two agree that the marriage would just be for appearance sake and that they will have the benefit of enjoying sex with no feelings and no emotions. However, soon their marriage starts to become more as emotions and feelings begin to grow between them and their relationship becomes more real than they had expected.
Dirty Billionaire was such an addictive book. The story was very sexy and fast-paced; I couldn't put it down! I read through this book and the rest of the series (Dirty Pleasures and Dirty Together) so quickly. The book is very appropriately titled as Creighton and Holly had fantastic chemistry, leading to some seriously hot and dirty sexy time! The characters individually were also well written. Creighton is very arrogant and controlling, but still likable and caring. It was very enjoyable to see him fall so hard for Holly and how he's willing to do anything for her. With Holly, I thought she was one tough and sassy chick, who is driven to achieve her dream of being a country singer, and while she may let Creighton take the lead in the bedroom, outside of it she doesn't give in to his demands so easily. One issue I had was the lack of communication and miscommunication between Creighton and Holly that occurred a couple times in the series, and this issue made me a bit frustrated with the characters. Overall, I totally recommend this series for readers, and I highly suggest that they binge this series together because Dirty Billionaire will definitely leave readers wanting the next book right away.
Shades of Wicked by Jeaniene Frost
Master vampire Ian is unrepentant, shameless…and every shade of wicked. He’s made one too many enemies in his two centuries of existence, including Dagon, a demon who now lays claim to his soul. Ian’s only chance to escape Dagon is to join forces with Veritas, a Law Guardian, who has her own ax to grind with Dagon. Veritas has come up with a plan to use Ian as bait in order to draw out Dagon. As they scour supernatural hotspots to perfect their trap, Veritas soon realizes Ian’s devil-may-care, roguish image hides something much more powerful. And Ian discovers that Veritas has shocking secrets of her own. As they’re drawn to each other with a passion as intense as their peril, either love or justice will prevail. But each will have devastating consequences...
Fans of Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series are familiar with Ian and have been waiting for his book since he was first introduced. If haven't read the Night Huntress series yet, I recommend checking out Halfway to the Grave, the first book in the series; however, it isn't necessarily required as you can still read Shades of Wicked on its own. As one of the people excited for Ian's book, I am very sad to say that I thought that Shades of Wicked was just okay. I thought that it was a very slow read. While I enjoyed learning about Ian's history and seeing that there was more to him, I had a hard time connecting to Veritas, and I think because the book was told from her POV it was probably one of the reasons why I didn't enjoy Shades of Wicked as much as I hoped. With the romance, I liked that they were two unlikely pairs and thought the whole opposites attract worked, but I didn't think there was that strong of an emotional or passionate connection between the two. On a side note, I haven't read any vampire romances in a while, so I totally forgot how crazy vampire sexy times were with them flying all over the place and furniture breaking. In the end, I think what kind of saved the book in my opinion was the cliffhanger ending that kept me interested in reading the next book.
Archangel's Prophecy by Nalini Singh
Midnight and dawn, Elena’s wings are unique among angelkind…and now they’re failing. As the first mortal to be turned into an immortal in angelic memory, Elena is now regressing and becoming more and more human. Easier to hurt. Easier to kill. Elena and Raphael must unearth the reason for the regression before it’s too late and Elena falls out of the sky. Yet even as they fight a furious battle for Elena’s very survival, violent forces are gathering in New York and across the world.
Archangel's Prophecy is the latest book in the Guild Hunter series, which I highly recommend you read, starting with Angels' Blood before reading Archangel's Prophecy as the series needs to be read in order. That being said, if you haven't read the series yet this review will be mildly spoiler-y. Nalini Singh is one of my favorite romance author and all of her books are auto reads for me and Archangel's Prophecy is another amazing book from her! I absolutely loved this book! I was so drawn and connected to the story from the start of this book. One of the best things about the book continues to be Elena and Raphael, who I think are one of the best couples in romance. In Archangel's Prophecy, Singh's writing is so amazing as you can just feel the deep endless love Elena and Raphael have for one another as the two literally can not stand the thought of losing the other. Their love is really just so beautiful and it was heartbreaking reading how they were struggling with Elena's regression, and how determined they were trying to stop it. The buildup was so suspenseful and intense as it kept me reading all the way to the end trying to figure out what was going on with Elena. The book ends with a major cliffhanger that left me shocked as I am seriously wondering what is going to happen next in the series. How could you do this to me, Nalini Singh!?!
